Dear friends and neighbors,
I wanted to update all our Farmingdale train commuters on some new issues we face now that we have competition and choice when choosing a cab ride. Most recently we had more cabs at the train station than we had riders. People who wanted to drop off or pick up passengers in front of the station were not able to do so because of the cab congestion.
We received complaints and I and the Trustees on separate occasions personally spent time at the station and observed the problems first hand. On Monday evening, the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to limit the number of cabs at the station to six vehicles. The cabs have designated parking and we have installed signs for pick up and drop off areas next to the station. Now that train personnel are not using their reserved parking, we designated two of these spots as temporary parking for people to purchase train tickets. Please keep us posted if any other issues arise.
I want to publicly thank our new County Legislator Joe Belesi. If you are not aware, Joe was a Nassau County Police Officer for 30 plus years and I asked him to please help us with some of the speeding traffic issues we face in the Village. We’ve had numerous accidents in the Village this past year, two of which resulted in pedestrians being killed. With Joe’s help, we secured additional highway patrol officers to supplement the 8th Precinct Police and in three weeks 274 moving violations were written on Conklin Street, Route 109 and Hempstead Turnpike. I can only hope that we can keep the pressure on to get people to slow down and obey the traffic laws.
We are getting close to spring! If you have any free time, please contact Deputy Mayor Pat Christiansen and join the Beautification Committee. It is very rewarding and much appreciated.
