Keeping an open mind, I attended a debate where Arshad Majid and Rose Walker were vying for the Nassau County Legislature seat for the 17th Legislative District.
Rose Walker was almost an hour late – every question asked of her by the moderator of the debate that she barely managed to answer, was tempered by her allegiance to Mr. Mangano – never by her ability to fill the job. When asked what would happen if Mr. Mangano lost the election, we received no answer. When asked what she would do as a legislator, she hemmed and hawed – and was heavily leaning on her past six years on the Town of Oyster Bay Council record.
I ask what has the Town of Oyster Bay Council done for its inhabitants in the past six years – other than raise taxes. Anytime I needed help from the town, I was turned down. I wonder how many of you had the same experience.
Although Ms. Walker wanted us to believe that she will enhance senior and veterans’ service as well as expand parks and youth programs if elected to the legislature – can anyone remember what she or the Town of Oyster Bay has done for its inhabitants in the past six years other than raise taxes, ignore serious cries for help from its inhabitants and the town’s needs for growth? I can’t!
Arshad Majid greatly impressed me. He has an incredible drive – he sees things as they are at this very difficult time in our lives. As an assistant district attorney, he prosecuted crimes ranging from violent crimes, child and elder abuse, domestic violence and computer and credit card fraud. Arshad Majid has an MBA in economics and finance, and visualizes and intends to bring well-paying jobs to our young and skilled college graduates and affordable housing for them to live in.
The visible difference in the candidates is that one, Rose Walker, wants to just go along for the ride on someone else’s coat tails – and the other candidate, Arshad Majid, cares about the welfare of all of us in Nassau County and will diligently work to protect us from government waste, political favoritism and the pillages of high taxes.
