Redmond, Marie, a longtime resident of Farmingdale, died on May 19, at the Long Island State Veterans Home. She was 93 years of age. Marie and her late husband, Gerard, moved to Farmingdale in 1956 from their prior home in Brooklyn. Both had served in the Armed Forces during WWII; he in the Navy and she as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps, where she was stationed in England, France, and later in occupied Germany, assigned to serve with General George S. Patton’s 3rd Army. Following her discharge from the U.S. Army, she continued her career in nursing, rising to the position of associate director of nurses at Hempstead General Hospital, from which she retired in 1982. Marie enjoyed traveling and she and her late husband had taken numerous road trips throughout the U.S. and Canada. She is survived by her son, Gerard; daughter, Kathleen MacDonald; and son-in-law, Thomas MacDonald; by three grandchildren (Colleen, Margaret, and Alexander) and one great-granddaughter (Allison); by her brother, Harvey Hewitt, and by many nieces and nephews. Funeral prayers were held at the funeral home. Interment at Calverton National Cemetery.
