Spinella, Mary C., a longtime Bethpage resident passed away at the age of 94 on Aug. 24. Beloved wife of the late Frank T. Spinella. Loving and devoted mother of Francine Webb, Susan Killer, Jane Janiak and Frank Jr. Cherished grandmother of Danielle, Bradley, Christina, William, Kyle and Grace. A Great wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be missed by all. Memorial visitation was held on Aug. 30, followed by a funeral mass at St. Martin of Tours RC Church. Joan Stanton Hollister at the age of 97, died peacefully on Aug. 21. Beloved wife of the late Donald Hollister. Devoted mother of Rose (Michael) Stankiewicz. Originally from New York, Joan moved to Manchester, NJ, and returned to New York and resided at the Bristal in Massapequa the past four years. Brooks, Catherine E. (nee Jorgensen), of Bellevue, NE (formerly of Melville) passed away on Aug. 20, 2013. Beloved wife of the late Gordon. Loving mother of Gordon and his wife, Susan. Cherished grandmother of Graham and Max. Dear sister of Elizabeth Steenbuck, the late Larry Jorgensen and the late Frances Kasper. She is now reunited with her husband and their cherished companions, the late Bunky, Kim and Lance. Sloan, David C., age 69, of Bethpage, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. On Sunday, Aug. 18, at Lowell General Hospital., Lowel,l MA, he passed on from this life after a long battle with a head injury, which occurred as a result of a car accident in 1966. Born Feb. 22, 1944, in Bethpage, he was the son of the late William S and Lourene A. Sloan. He was a graduate of Bethpage High School and Evangel College, Springfield, MO, where David was on the golf team. He was also a lifetime member of Bethpage Assembly of God. Surviving are his five brother and sisters. William B. (Mary Ruth), Lourene C. Zahac, Ruth C. Banach (John), Clara A. Tooker (Ken), and W. Douglas Sloan (Mary). He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law John Zahac. Also surviving are two nephews and nieces nieces and many grandnephews and nieces. Friends and relatives attended services on Aug. 22, at the Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Inc. with Pastor Sal Bennardo officiating. Interment followed in the family plot at the Bethpage United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Ann (Chamos) Volavka, passed away at the age of 94 on Aug. 16. A Bethpage resident since 1950, she was a former cafeteria cook for the Bethpage School District. She was predeceased in 1957 by her beloved husband, Emil Joseph, and by their cherished daughter Theresa in 2010. She is survived by her loving daughters and their husbands: Christine and Alfred Gros and Linda and Justin Perrotta. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren Justine Gonzalez (Eddie), Annmarie Merritt, Danielle Gros, Nicole Gros, and great grandchildren Angelina, Jayden and Cole. A Funeral mass was held on Aug. 21, at St. Martin of Tours RC Church, followed by interment at Long Island National Cemetery, Pinelawn. Arrangements were entrusted to the Arthur F. Carl J. Lubrano, 90, of Farmingdale passed away on Aug. 4 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Served his country in the 3rd Marine Division as a Sergeant in the South Pacific during WW II. Retired after 40 years of service with Dellwood Dairy, Yonkers. Worked 16 years as a sacristan at St. Kilian RC Church (his home away from home). Beloved husband of 68 years to Josephine “Jo”. Loving father of Pat Ward and Father Robert Lubrano. Proud grandfather of Derek Ward and the late Robert Ward. A Funeral mass was celebrated on Aug. 9, at St. Kilian RC Church, followed by interment with military honors at Long Island National Cemetery, Pinelawn.
