On Dec. 28, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the American Legion Post 449 in Farmingdale will sponsor a flap-jack breakfast at the Airport Plaza Applebee’s. The event is being held to benefit the son of one of the Legion’s members, Alex, a former Farmingdale EMS, and recovering cancer survivor. Tickets cost $13. On Jan. 6, the Police Althetic League of Farmingdale is holding a unit meeting at their clubhouse, located at 31 North Front Street in Farmingdale, starting at 7 p.m.
The Village of Farmingdale Board of Trustees will hold its next meeting on Jan. 6, at 8 p.m.
On Jan. 7, the Farmingdale Baseball League, Inc. is holding a meeting at Allen Park, located at 45 Motor Avenue in Farmingdale, starting at 8 p.m.
Previously postponed due to inclement weather, the Farmingdale School District will be holding a mathematics workshop for parents of students in grades K-2. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 8. the Weldon E. Howitt Middle School Library starting at 7 p.m.
The Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce will hold its first general meeting of 2014, on Jan. 9, at Palmer’s American Grille at 123 Fulton St. Bring your business cards. All members present will enter into a drawing to win either “Featured Member of the Month” on the Chamber website, a Spotlight in the newsletter, or a banner or the Chamber’s website for one month.

On Sat., Jan. 11, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church will host a fundraiser at Mulcahy’s, 3232 Railroad Ave., Wantagh. There will be an open bar which will include bottled domestic bear, mixed drinks, wine, soda and a buffet dinner. Live music will be provided by Jimmy Kenny and the Pirate Beach Band. The Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society will host a program on the New York City Draft Riots of the Civil War, on Jan. 12, at 2 p.m., inside the Farmingdale Public Library, located at 116 Merritts Rd. Join us for a presentation from well-known author and scholar Barnet Schecter, as he reflects on a period of four days in the history of New York City that had federal troops called in to control the violence.
