On Friday, Oct. 5, the Farmingdale Fire Department Columbus Day Fair was swarming with teenage girls screaming for Nick Tangorra, 15, and his band members as they rocked the crowd behind the firehouse for what might be the second largest musical performance turnout in the fair’s history since Big Shot performed last.
Vocalist Tangorra, and his bandmates, brother Rafe on drums, Will Aherns on guitar, and Phil Firetog on bass signed autographs for more than two hours before they took the stage at 7:30 p.m.
The group’s fans, call FANgorras converged and surrounded the stage, wearing their T-shirts that read, Team Nick, while singing along with Tangorra and his bandmates as they covered songs like “Everybody Talks” by Neon Trees, Nicki Minaj’s “Starships” and “Boyfriend” by Justin Beiber. Tangorra selected two audience members to bring on to the stage, while he serenaded them. The crowd went wild.
Tangorra has recently attracted attention as a finalist of America’s Got Talent YouTube competition, and also as a finalist on the MSG Varsity talent show, and the Nassau County Reach for the Stars competition. His single, “Dance With Me,” released independently, is available on iTunes. The following on social networking sites has accumulated thousands and their local shows have been selling out.
“I had an absolute blast playing the Farmingdale Fair! I think I have—correction—I know I have the best fans in the world,” Tangorra later told the Farmingdale Observer. “And I appreciate all the love and support that they spoil us with.” He thanked the FANgorras.

“Championship, Cortland and Chipotle.” These buzz words, created by Farmingdale girls’ lacrosse coach Shari Campbell, were motivation for the Lady Dalers (14-3, 7-2 Nassau Conference I), as they held on to beat Bay Shore, 12-11 and claim the Long Island Class A Championship at Adelphi’s Motamed Field on Sunday, June 2.
Campbell promised her team that if they won, she would take the team Chipotle to celebrate, following the match.
“That was the biggest motivation for us all,” senior attack Nadine Hadnagy joked.
