John "Jack" Reddington passed away last month. You might think you did not know him but if you have children that played or if you played ball at Allen Park, you all knew Jack. A part-time Town of Oyster Bay employee (nights and weekends) he patrolled that park like it was his own backyard. His mission - to make sure the fields were playable and the park was the best it could be. You still think you don't know Jack? Here's what some associates of mine had to say upon learning of Jack's passing: "Jack was one of the nicest, friendliest and most sincere people I have ever known," "Jack was my favorite, he always took time to say hello and talk. Always with a smile. Happy Jack." He had a clever sense of humor and a genuine kindness". I personally grew very fond of Jack over the last eight years. We shared chapters of stories (mostly his), way too many concession hot dogs and tons and tons of laughs. He was a special man who always had the children of our community close to his heart. I, like many others, truly consider it an honor to have known him. Although he will be sorely missed, I will always think of Jack whenever I am at the park, you'll know by the smile on my face!
