The Dalers Junior Varsity Black roller hockey team is participating in the Island-wide Roller Hockey High School League. The team is coached by Jim Gunn, Steve Sloane, and Gabe Vitale. Head coach Jim Gunn has put an enormous effort in the development of the hockey players in our community. Over the last two years, the players have responded to his experienced coaching techniques. They have shown tremendous improvement in skill, teamwork, and mental focus. Presently, Farmingdale is in first place with a 5-0 record.
In game one against North Babylon, the Dalers pulled out a big win 9-1. Zach Wetzel produced two goals and one assist. Tom Mullen had one goal and two assists. John Gunn followed with two assists. Against John F. Kennedy, Farmingdale won 10-5. John Gunn and Joseph Kennedy led with two goals and two assists. Greg Coppola had two goals and one assist. Nick Vitale followed with a goal and an assist. The next match-up was Massapequa. The Dalers won 7-1. Scott Dwyer scored a goal and had three assists. Zach Wetzel scored two goals and had an assist. Then, Korey Hendrickson followed with two goals. Korey has become a very talented hockey player.
This past weekend, Farmingdale came from behind to beat Sachem 4-3. Ed O'Hara led with two goals both assisted by Nick Vitale. John Gunn had a goal, and an assist. The game was tied 3-3 well into the final period. With less than one minute left, Nick Vitale set up Ed O'Hara who scored the winner. Then, against Half Hollow Hills High School, Farmingdale took a commanding lead and the final score was 8-1. Sal Noto had two goals and an assist. Tom Mullen had a goal and two assists. Nick Vitale produced two goals both assisted by John Gunn. Defenseman Casey Coglianese and Steven Jones on offense have contributed to the team's success.
Goalie Anthony Chille has been superb in the net. He is the league leader in wins with five. Chille is third in goals against with a 2.73 average and has 93 saves. Anthony made some key saves especially in the win against Sachem.
