Senator Kemp Hannon secured the funding necessary to install new security cameras at the Farmingdale LIRR station.
"The protection of residents is a priority of mine, and these new cameras are designed to enhance security at the station and better protect residents, especially those who may be utilizing the railroad in early mornings or late at night," said Senator Hannon.
Senator Hannon obtained funding for the closed circuit cameras last year, and installation was completed this spring. If a crime is committed at the station, police will now be able to review the feed to find the perpetrators responsible.
"Law enforcement will be able to review the actions captured on camera and begin the process to locate offenders if any illegal activity is caught on tape," added Senator Hannon.
Cameras at the Farmingdale train station are designed to reduce petty crimes and make someone think twice before mugging a passenger.
"Cameras work to help protect people," stated Senator Hannon. "If they helped reduce major crime in other areas, my hope is they will work to bring down the rate of vandalism and assault at train stations and also protect the young and the elderly here on Long Island."
