The St. Kilian Saints kicked off the 2008 spring season with back-to-back victories. Opening day saw the Saints in their brand new uniforms face off vs the North Merrick/Bellmore Blue Demons. The Saints wasted no time jumping out to a 5-0 lead, Nick "RBI" Panza got things going with a two-run double. Solid pitching from Tyler Byrnes & Brendan Nocella helped the Saints coast to an 11-5 win. Saint notables: Aaron Powell two RBIs and three stolen bases, Chris Crowder two RBIs, Joe Valente two hits one RBI and a ESPN webgem catch that saved two runs from scoring and Matt Santamaria two clutch hits and three RBIs.
Game 2 of the Saints spring season would be their biggest test to date as they faced the Massapequa Heat. Brian Rubenacker got the start and kept the Heat in check for four innings to earn the win. In the bottom of the fifth the Saints took a 2-1 lead when Aaron Powell beat out an infield singe scoring Nico Rivera. The Saints would make it 3-1 on the torrid baserunning of PJ Spadalik, PJ singled to left stole second and third and then induced the Heat pitcher to balk him home! Nick Panza came on to earn the save. Final score Saints 3, Heat 2. Other Saint notables: Andre Ocasio with a fine catch and throw to double off a Heat baserunner, PJ Spadalik who was a vacuum at shortstop, Matt Santamaria and Nico Rivera with several solid plays in the field.
