Opinion

I want to let residents know the State Department of Transportation (DOT) has informed me that resurfacing of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway (NY-135) has now entered the design phase of its development.

This project was initiated to improve the riding quality and safety of the roadway by overlaying the existing concrete pavement with a two-course asphalt overlay. Additionally, the DOT will remove the existing raised median and box beam median rail and install a concrete median barrier to improve the safety of the roadway by preventing median crossover collisions.

Construction is presently anticipated for the spring of 2010 with an estimated duration of one year.

If anyone has any questions or concerns about this project, I urge you to please contact my office at 739-1700 or to e-mail me at hannon@senate.state.ny.us.
