Harold ''Hal''Chalfin, 78, passed away on March 19, 2008 at the Woodside Hospice in Largo, FL. Mr. Chalfin was retired and living in Oldsmar, FL, at the time.

He was well known and liked for the 20 years he ran Smiles 5 and 10 cent store. Hal was an active member of Kiwanis, the chamber of commerce and the Farmingdale Jewish Center during his years in Farmingdale. Originally from Jamaica, NY, he graduated from NYU School of Retailing and moved to Farmingdale when he married the former Audrey Smiles and went into the family business. The Chalfins moved to Massapequa where they had two daughters , Randi and Jamie. After 20 years, they moved to Florida and have lived on both the east and west coasts for 30 years.

Harold is survived by his wife, the former Audrey Smiles, and two daughters, Randi, her husband Hugh Piney, and son Gabriel of Poughkeepsie, and daughter Jamie, her husband Dr. Robert Stein, and two sons , Zack and Sam, of Oldsmar, FL, as well as his sister Sandy Shein and family from Princeton, NJ.

The funeral was held on March 24 at the Star of David Funeral Home in Melville. A memorial service was held in Oldsmar as well. He was dearly loved as "poppy" and will be greatly missed by all.

Dorothy H. Miller, of Danville, OH, formerly of Farmingdale until 1977, passed away on April 13, 2008. Sister to the late Marion Allen and sister-in-law to the late Ellsworth Allen, and niece, Robert and Kathleen Allen from Massapequa and their daughters, Dorothy's great niece, Lynne Allen and Kim Bremer.
