John L. O'Sullivan, of Farmingdale, passed away April 6, 2008. Retired NYC Fire Department Captain. Husband of Mary R. (nee Gill). Father of Mary, Anne Torio (Nick), John (Kathryn), Theresa Starke (John), Helen Williamson (Rick), Jerry and the late Patrick. Brother of Peggy Cunningham and Daniel O'Sullivan. Grandfather of Tara, Sean, Cody, Deirdre, Charlie, Ricky, Garrett, Patrick, Grace, Lucy, Connor, and Kayla. Arrangements were made by Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held April 9 at St. Kilian RC Church with interment following at St. Charles Cemetery.
Rose Vaillant, born 1909 in Venezuela passed away April 13, 2008 in Plainview. Predeceased in 1961 by her husband, John. Survived by her children, Albert Vaillant and Anita DeLisa, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held April 15 at Our Lady of Mercy RC Church, Hicksville with interment following at Linden Hill Cemetery, Ridgewood.
Robert J. Poppe, Sr., longtime resident of Bethpage, passed away at home April 13, 2008, with his family by his side. Proud U.S. WW II Army veteran. Husband of the late Joan. Father of Kathy Clarke, Eileen Musgrave, Robert Jr., Mary Jane Dudley, Patricia DeMato, Susan Grant and John. Grandfather of 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Arthur F. White Funeral Home. A prayer service was held April 16 with funeral and interment April 17 at Calverton National Cemetery. Thomas E. Messemer (Tommy) was born in Brooklyn on May 19. 1935. Tommy was the fourth son of Fred C. and Anna (Davis) Messemer. While still a youngster his family moved to Farmingdale on Long Island. Tommy attended schools in Farmingdale and following his high school graduation went on to apprenticeship school to become an electrician. He was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served at Fort Meade, Maryland and in Korea, 1958-1960. Upon his return to the states Tommy married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Lois Lackert of Bethpage. They have a son, Timothy Eli Messemer of Pompano Beach, Florida. Tommy was active in his church as well as the Central Park/Bethpage Historical Society. The Messemers resided in Bethpage until the winter of 1996 when after 37 years in the electrical business Tommy retired and he and Dotty moved to the Taylor Creek area of Weems, Virginia. Tommy's retirement years were spent RVing with Dotty and their beagle companions. Tommy also enjoyed playing golf, volunteered his time at Historic Christ Church, Habitat for Humanity, various church activities and was always ready to help a friend or neighbor with tasks especially if it involved electrical work. His hearty laugh endeared him to all whose lives he touched. Tommy passed away on April 17, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, his son Timothy, and one sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Services were held at the funeral home with interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park. Memorials in Tommy's name may be sent to the Irvington Baptist Church Building Fund (P.O.
