The Long Island Devils from Farmingdale, playing in the National Junior Baseball league, played their first game on Sunday, April 6.
Outstanding pitching was delivered by Michael Manetta, Tommy Hamel, and Tyler Sullivan. Hits came from Jake Heuskin, Joe Salavec, Joe Quinn and a home run by Connor Doran.
There was great defensive fielding from Glenn Kennedy, Daniel Keller, Kevin McCormick, Anthony LaRosa and John Allen Feiner.
Next weekend the LI Devils will be playing the Queens Boys Club in Kissena Park. Long Island Devils 11U start off the season with two wins.
The LI Devils pitching and defense led them to two victories on Sunday, April 6. Game one starter, Chris Brown, and closer, Vinny Quinn, led the Devils to their first win. Game two starter, Shane Gordon, and closer, Dylan Loria, held the LI Indians to three runs in the second game.
Big hits were delivered by Shane Gordon, Nick DeMartino, Curtis Jenkins and Justin Henry. Great defense was played by Mike Scheuerer, Brendan Gruener, Nicky Birns, Chris Brown and Justin Henry's running catch in left field.
Missing starting pitcher Jack Keller will be back next week when the Devils host Levittown.
