Opinion

It has been my privilege to serve as your village trustee for the past two years. Together with Butch Starkie I have worked very hard representing you and we believe we have realized many accomplishments. Butch and I literally "hit the ground running" and interviewed and selected a new village attorney, worked diligently to present you with an affordable budget which ultimately was defeated, enacted a building moratorium which is affording us the opportunity to study all areas of the village with regard to land use and appropriate zoning. This study continues and we need to have a full independent report which will enable us to properly proceed with the applications currently before our village. We engaged a new village auditor and insurance agency to save you money.

We've enacted new local laws pertaining to required frontage for parcels in the "B" zone, illegal housing, office-residency uses, affordable housing, and parkland funds from developers wishing to subdivide lots. Reinstating the Beautification Committee has been a very enjoyable part of my duties. This committee of volunteers never ceases to amaze me. They are armed with ideas and enthusiasm and together we have worked very hard at renovating our village green; creating the pocket park on north Main Street while continuing to work to beautify our village with seasonal plantings and holiday decorations. Last summer chairing our 25th/75th Anniversary celebration gave us an opportunity to provide our residents with a delightful Sunday afternoon in our Village Green enjoying good food provided by members of our Fire Department and wonderful music presented by the Village Pops. Butch and I look forward to planning more of these events.

Together, Butch and I visited our residents to resolve issues relating to traffic calming, flooded streets, vehicular traffic issues, and zoning matters. Yet, there remains much to be done. We need a cleaner and revitalized Main Street, an Ethics Committee, more community events, improved Work Session meetings, review of health benefits for elected and appointed personnel, and planning for future development that will be in the best interest of our residents, not the developers.

I would ask that you join with me and vote for Butch Starkie for mayor and Cheryl Parisi and Bill Barrett for trustees. I am confident their first priority, like mine, will be you, the residents of our wonderful Village of Farmingdale.

Thank you for the affirmation you have given me these past two years. I look forward to working on your behalf for the remainder of my first term in office.
