Farmingdale's St. Kilian CYO seventh-grade boys basketball team won the St.Cyril Holiday Tournament held in Deer Park between Christmas and New Year. For many of the boys it was their first time playing at the competitive "B" level. The pace was fast and the atmosphere electric as St. Kilian met tough teams from NYC and Suffolk county. The semi-final game was played on Thursday, Dec. 27 against a tough Queens team. St. Kilian controlled the game by dominating the boards and utilizing their quick transition game. St. Kilian won 37-19. The win catapulted them to play for the championship on Saturday, Dec. 29. A tough St Patrick from Smithtown team started strong, but St. Kilian once again showed their strength by breaking the press and playing tough defense. St. Kilian became the aggressor and scored on multiple fast breaks taking an early 10-point lead they would never relinquish. Suffocating defense and great guard play gave St. Kilian the championship with a 29-21 win in front of an enthusiastic crowd. PJ Spadalik was named the MVP for his outstanding play throughout the tournament. The win also took St. Kilian's team record to a perfect 10-0 this year. The team is coached by Al Lopez, Mike Neglia and Ed Eustaquio.
