Opinion
At this time of year I always like to remind everyone of the meeting procedure that takes place in our village. Our monthly trustee meetings are a great opportunity for all village residents and interested community members to see firsthand how village government operates. The opportunity to address the board and share your thoughts, opinions and ideas really does matter. One person's opinion can and has had a bearing on what has been and what will be decided. We do realize that due to other commitments it is not possible or practicable for all residents to attend. As such, I have gone to great lengths to make the information at the meetings available to you if you cannot attend. You can visit the village website, www.farmingdalevillage.org to view the minutes from past meetings as well as see the calendar of events and read copies of our past newsletters. The village board and I are committed to making sure that our village government is an open government. The Village of Farmingdale Trustees meets at least once a month (sometimes two), usually on a Monday or Tuesday at Village Hall at 7:30 p.m. The meetings are posted on the sign in front of Village Hall and are also posted on the village website. When necessary special meetings of the board are also convened. These meetings are not only open to the public, but the Trustees and I encourage attendance by as many residents as possible. During each of these meetings the public can participate during the public participation portion of the meeting. All that is required is for the individual to state his or her name and address. It is at these public meetings of the board, and only at these public meetings, that the board votes and takes actions involving the Village. Only matters of a confidential nature, such as labor negotiations, employee discipline, and pending litigation matters are discussed by the Board in Executive Session. I hope that all village residents will come and participate in our meetings. These meetings provide an opportunity to hear first hand what your elected officials say and do. They provide you a chance to share your observations, suggestions and opinions. Please come to the meetings and if you can't - read the minutes on the website. I look forward to seeing you there. I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Holiday.
