The Lady Jaguars played a tough game against the Lady Browns starting with a touchdown by Melissa off a pass from Kym, with Shannon scoring the extra point. Furious flag pulling by Kym, Melissa, Laura, Jess and Courtney kept the Lady Jaguars in the game. Mirella and Melissa had beautiful blocks. Emily gained big yards on a double reverse and Chelsea threw a great pass to Courtney. Coaches Bill and Tom are very proud of the girls.
The Jets put another "W" on the board, playing great offense and defense. They never gave up, especially Nic Luc, who covered every inch of the field, giving new meaning to the "running play concept"--excellent job. The coachs wish the season wasn't coming to an end--they are very proud of everyone: Sean, Connor, Nic, Spencer, Ryan, Will, Jesse, Vincent, and the three Anthony's.
For the Ravens, it was Mr. Inside and Mr. Outside, Sean and Tyler Moloney leading the offense with a TD run each. Patrick McCarthy and Nick Fiorentino also had some long runs to help the Ravens gain good field position. On defense, Nick Carbone and Jack Livingston slowed down the Jets passing attack to keep the Ravens within striking distance.
The Jaguars squared off against the undefeated Saints. On the first possession, the Jags used the old Statue of Liberty play with Matt McCarthy running the full length of the field for a TD. Trevor Clark on an end around play, ripped off some big yardage for a crucial 1st down to keep a drive alive. In the closing moments, Matthew Lewis-Flood found the reliable Michael Simmons with a perfect pass for the Jaguars final TD. Trevor Clark received the game ball.
The Browns faced off against the Saints. The Saints struck first, and then the Browns came back with a touchdown by Kevin DiLeonardo. The Browns' defense, led by Nick Pantorno, Tyler Sullivan, and Christian Marrone, kept the Saints at bay. A late touchdown run by Nick was not enough, but they showed great effort.
The Saints and the Cardinals hooked up in a classic three-overtime playoff battle. Both teams showed great heart and determination and ended up deadlocked at 12 through regulation play and 2 OT periods. The Cards prevailed with a TD in the third OT and held on as the Saints had a chance to tie things up again on the final play. It was a total team effort by the Saints with every player making big contributions throughout the game.
The Jags start the playoffs strong with win over a hard-working Browns team. After a shaky start, the Jags were woken up by M. Dittmeier and J. Feehan interceptions. The offense was led by V. Rice's 3 TD passes and a TD catch. Solid all around play by A. Panariello and N. DeMartino.
Looks like the Colts will be playing another week after a great game against the Jets. Both teams played well, but the Colts pulled out another win.
The Jaguars, on the strength of 3 Mike Tristano touchdowns, went on to a 42-19 victory versus the Giants. Quarterback John Cozzolino threw TD passes to Chris McGlynn, Matt Hurwitz, and Sean Timmons. Jonathan Kuchinskas scored on two extra point attempts. Not to be denied, Kyle Hacker added two points on defense when he pulled a flag for a safety in the second half. The Giants were led by two touchdowns by Xavier Sanabria and one by Michael Smith.
The Cardinals fought off a tough Ravens team, winning 28-16. Richie Sullivan scored off an interception deep in the Cardinals end and returned it for a score. PJ Spadalik led the team with three TD passes, one each to Nick Eustaquio, Richie Sullivan and James Haraden. The Ravens fought back, scoring on long plays, but in the end, the defense tightened, with excellent plays by Patrick Lively, Matt Santamaria, Jack Garner, Andrew Hanc and Frank Zazzarino, who made a key defensive stop. James sealed the win in the final seconds by knocking down the Ravens' pass at the goal line.
The Seahawks advanced with another come-from-behind win, this time over the Colts. On the final drive, Paul Cohen made a pair of impressive catch and runs. And with less than a minute to play, Tom Ferrigno hit Anthony Bonilla to tie the game. Cohen completed the cardiac comeback grabbing the go ahead extra point to lift the Seahawks.
The Jets beat the Giants 33-16 to advance to the Super Bowl. The offense was led by some nifty running by Christian Casillo. Nick Panza consistently avoided the blitz to complete passes to Jordan Merchan, Chris Crowder, Kyle Garry and Michael Hofmann. On defense the combination of Ross Flanagan's knock down passes and Jack Persampire's intercepted ones suffocated the Giants offense into submission.
The Ravens snapped out of a 1-7 season with a 40-26 victory over the Cardinals this past week, putting them in the final playoff for next weekend's Super Bowl. It's been a rough season for the Ravens, often missing players. But these past two weeks, they have become a dominating team, with leadership by Steve Harris and John Spielman. Special "thumbs up" this week, to George Calvo on his performance, as well as Matt McCloskey for completing an "impossible" catch.
