Welcome Fall. Farmingdale and our surrounding communities are full of traditions and events that mark this special time of year. The traditional kickoff of the Farmingdale Fall season is our annual Columbus Day Fair. As my previous column detailed, this year's fair was one of the best ever. As Halloween approaches, another wonderful tradition, the Rag-a-Muffin parades take place. Our Kiwanis Club will once again host the annual parade down Main Street on Oct. 27, rain or shine. The parade will begin at Northside at 1 p.m. and continue down main St. to the Village Green. At the Village Green prizes and candy will be distributed and the awards will be given for various categories of costumes. Our North Massapequa neighbors are also hosting their 33rd annual Children's Rag-a-Muffin Costume parade on Sunday, Oct. 28. Hosted by the North Massapequa Fire Department, the parade starts at noon at North Nassau Avenue and North Broadway in North Massapequa. I hope that you can attend one or both of these events. Our children have a great time; and the more cheering spectators along the parade route, the more fun the children will have. In November the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Holiday Parade. This year it will be on Saturday, Nov. 17 at noon. Please mark your calendar and plan on attending to kick your holiday season off on the right foot! I also want to remind everyone to Shop Farmingdale. Please remember our local merchants and businesses when doing your holiday shopping. Our many shops have wonderful decorations, gifts and seasonal offerings for all to enjoy. Our many restaurants offer a wide variety of cuisines from around the globe. Come eat, come shop and come enjoy all that the Village of Farmingdale has to offer.
