Local elected and appointed officials recently welcomed Nassau County's first emergency shelter trailer to Farmingdale. Each of the County's 19 legislative districts will receive one of the trailers, which are used to augment the Red Cross shelters in case of an emergency, and would be deployed to affected areas.

Farmingdale Village Superintendent of Public Works Fred Zamparelle, Farmingdale Office of Emergency Management Manager Jo Ann Edling, Village Administrator David E. Smollett, Nassau County OEM Commissioner James Callahan III, Village Mayor George Graf, Legislator Dave Mejias and Village Trustee George "Butch" Starkie.

Each trailer contains 100 cots, 10 special needs cots, 210 blankets, linens for the cots, 100 ponchos, disposable coveralls, non-skid boot covers, 120 adult hygiene kits, 20 children's hygiene kits and six portable toilets.

"I am proud that the people of the 14th Legislative District now have an additional layer of protection in the case of an emergency," Legislator Mejias said. "Nassau County is committed to ensuring that all its residents will have somewhere to turn should an emergency occur, and these trailers are just the latest example of that commitment."
