Obituaries

Harold J. von Hasseln, lately of Basalt, CO, formerly of Hilton Head, South Carolina and a longtime resident of Farmingdale, died of cancer Sept. 11, 2007. Mr. von Hasseln was born Jan. 18, 1922 in Brooklyn, the son of Henry and Anna von Hasseln. After graduating Brooklyn Tech High School, he attended Georgia Tech University, graduating early and with honors in mechanical engineering to accept a commission in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He continued his wartime work on early radar systems in civilian employment, initially with Westinghouse/GE, and later during 37 years with Sperry Rand. A licensed professional engineer, he was a published author and court recognized expert witness in engineering matters, particularly the then new fields of testing, reliability, and quality management. Some of the projects he worked on were the B-47 and B-58 bombers for the U.S. Air Force, the Oliver Hazard Perry Class frigates for the U.S. Navy and he was specially commended by NASA for work on the Apollo Moon flights.

Mr. von Hasseln was one of the original homeowners on Hill Road in Farmingdale, residing there with Frances, his wife, who predeceased him in 1987 after 44 years of marriage. During their time together they were both active in church and community affairs. He was senior warden of Saint Thomas's Church, Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troup 275 and president of the Farmingdale Lions club. He was also a senior member of the American Societies of Quality Control Engineers and Mechanical Engineers and a member of the Retired Officer Association and Phi Gamma Delta and Pi Tao Sigma fraternities.

He is survived by his son Stephan Loyd von Hasseln (Ann) of Florida, his son Lieutenant Colonel Robert von Hasseln and his son, Erich, both of New York, and his daughter, Laura Wilson (Jim) and their daughters, Whitney, Erin and Molly, of Colorado.

Arrangements were made by the Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Farmingdale. Funeral Mass at St. Thomas's Church. Interment Pinelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Lions Club eyesight programs.

Pamela M. Graff (nee Enlow), of Bethpage, died on Sept. 15, 2007 surrounded by her family. Wife of Warren. Mother of Keith, Wayne, Kelly Grecki and Shannon. Sister of William Enlow. Grandmother of three. Arrangements were made by the Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Martin of Tours RC Church. Interment St. Charles Cemetery. Joyce E. Mullins, of N. Massapequa, died on Sept. 17, 2007 in her 80th year. She was predeceased by her husband Jack. Mother of Daniel (Melanie) and Scott (Laurie). Grandmother of Caitlin, Kara, Jessica, John and Ashleigh. A service was held at the Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Entombment Rose Hill Memorial Park, Putnam Valley, NY. Raymond J. Dracker, longtime resident of Bethpage, died peacefully on Sept. 17, 2007 with his family by his side. Husband of Peggy Jurgens and the late Joan. Father of Raymond Dracker, Susan Bestany, Joan Remsbecker, Virginia Trupia, the late Richard Dracker, Anne-Marie Pumo, Lisa Danz and Steven Dracker. Stepfather of Joseph Jurgens, Robert Jurgens, John Jurgens, Marie McEntee and James Jurgens. Also survived by three brothers, one sister and predeceased by one sister. Grandfather of 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Martin of Tours RC Church. Interment St. Charles Cemetery. Donations in Raymond's memory may be sent to the Catholic Medical Mission Board, 10 W. 17th St., New York, NY 10011. Jean Simoniello died on Sept. 18, 2007. Mother of Patrick, John and the late Catherine. Sister of Joseph Stassi. Grandmother of seven. Great-grandmother of eight. She was predeceased by her husband John, her sister Elizabeth Wiengrad and two grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Martin of Tours RC Church. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
