The newly formed St. Kilian Saints, a 12U boys baseball team from Farmingdale, kicked off their inaugural season with a bang. Three pitchers, Tyler Byrnes, Nick Panza and Aaron Powell combined to no-hit the LI Bombers. The Saints went on to sweep the Bombers 9-0 and 5-4. Nick Panza (3-3 and 4 RBIs) and Mike Hofmann both hit fence clearing homeruns in game 1. Game 2 saw The Saints get solid pitching from Brian Rubenacker & Brendan Nocella. Trailing 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, The Saints scored four runs, led by a steal of home by PJ Spadalik and a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Tyler Byrnes, followed by a clutch two-run single by Brain Rubenacker. The Saints played error-free baseball and stole 12 bases over the two games. The Saints want to wish a speedy recovery to their starting second baseman Chris Lopez.
