Opinion
Over the past few years many of my columns have made mention of the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce and the many services and events that they provide our community. The Farmingdale Chamber represents the whole Farmingdale community that includes the village, East and South Farmingdale. From Route 110 to Merritts Road and everything in between. Some of their events have become yearly traditions. Their Easter Egg Hunt and Holiday Parade are always a big success adding holiday cheer to our community. Their donations of Holiday lights have helped brighten our streets and their hanging of American flags have helped us proudly honor our country. They sponsor the Holiday Tree lighting each year and provide support to many charities throughout the year. Some of their recent donations have been: providing protective vests for our Auxiliary Police, scholarships for Farmingdale High School students and donating the printing of the Farmingdale Community Summit Council's Expo journal. They have recently started a new tradition at their monthly lunch meeting, where they have raffle prizes donated by their members and then give the proceeds from that meeting to a charitable organization. Another new event is their Business Card Swap. Members and prospective members are invited to a local eatery to meet and exchange cards. The most recent held at the Nutty Irishman was very successful. Under Past President Pete Yovine (I wish him the best in his retirement) and current President Debbie Podolski the chamber has become an important part of the growth of the greater Farmingdale business district. As I review some exciting changes on the horizon for the downtown area, I look forward to working with Debbie, the chamber board and their members. I urge all businesses and organizations to join and get involved. I also recommend all residents to support the chambers members by shopping locally and patronizing the various professionals who are also members. To learn more about the chamber you can visit their web site at www.farmingdalenychamber.org or you can link to their site when visiting the Farmingdale Village www.farmingdalevillage.com.
