A public hearing was held at the July 9 board meeting regarding 10 new single-family dwellings at 20 Merritts Rd.

After Anthony Addeo, Esq., who represents the owner, Mrs. Hubbard, presented the application to the board, Mayor Graf opened the hearing to the public.

Trustee Butch Starkie suggested hydro-seeding in order to control erosion. Addeo indicated that the builder would consider this option.

Addeo also indicated that after the village approves the plans, the Nassau County Planning Commission will perform its review, which will involve a traffic control study including a right-hand turn only out of the subdivision.

Trustee Starkie commented that the decision should include language about screening along the south and west lines and expressed concern with the exposed basements. Mayor Graf commented that he shared the same concern.

Addeo responded that the exposed basements would be covered with the same façade as the rest of the house.

A Hampshire Drive resident expressed concern with the difference in elevation between the subdivision and his property and inquired about drainage.

Don Sioss, village engineer, commented that each house will contain its own run-off.

A resident of Sherman Road asked what the closest distance would be between existing homes and the proposed new homes.

Building Superintendent Ron Craig responded that the closest distance would be 60 feet.

A number of residents expressed concern with the additional traffic. After an hour and a half, Deputy Mayor Joe Rachiele moved to adjourn the public hearing to Sept. 4. At the Sept. 4 board meeting, Addeo requested an adjournment of the public hearing to the Oct. 1 meeting.

The Village of Farmingdale will hold its next Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall. The next Work Session is slated for Monday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. For more information call 249-0093 or visit www.farmingdalevillage.com.
