Opinion

Next Saturday, July 21, a major event will once again be held on the roads of Farmingdale - the 24th annual Arrow Exterminating Company Long Island Women's 5 Kilometer Run - and we are asking for your kind help to make it successful and safe.

As in past years, this year's Run will bring several hundred runners and racewalkers into Farmingdale, and we need your cooperation to assure the safety of these guests in the community. Please, avoid driving your vehicle on the route of the Run as the runners and walkers are passing by. Please follow the directions of the police officers and volunteers who are on hand to direct traffic during the Run. Please be patient and be assured that we will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to local residents. The Run will start and finish at the High School track on Woodward Parkway at 9 a.m. The last participant should be finished by 9:45 a.m., but most of the course will be clear before then.

The charitable beneficiary of this year's Run is Long Island OCEANS and the battle against ovarian cancer. Again, we ask for your patience so that together we can support this important work.

Please feel free to come out and cheer the athletes on, and help us show the world what a friendly community Farmingdale truly is!

Thanks very much in advance for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions about the Run, or if you have a particular problem on the morning of the July 21 that we can help alleviate, please feel free to call us at 516-349-7646.
