The Lady Dalers defeated Massapequa 11-9 to defend their Nassau County Class A Championship and then they defeated Ward Melville last Sunday at Hofstra 14-11 to capture the Long Island Class A Championship for the second year in a row. Both games were tough, hard, close games that the Lady Dalers survived.

In the Long Island Championship game the Lady Dalers took a quick 3-1 lead. It could have been 6-1, but with three crease violations in a row the goals were disallowed. The Lady Dalers led at halftime 7-5, but Ward Melville would keep things tight. The Lady Dalers led 9-6 with fifteen minutes left in the game, but Ward Melville's Shaylyn Blaney scored three goals in one minute and forty seconds to tie it 9-9. Ward Melville would then take the lead 10-9 with 11 minutes left. It was the first time the Lady Dalers were behind, but it would not be for long. Candace Rossi would win the next face-off and score to make it 10-10. Then Alyassa Kildare would score for the Lady Dalers to give them the lead again 11-10, but Ward Melville came right back to tie it again 11-11. Then with four minutes and thirty seconds left the Lady Dalers went ahead for good with a goal by Janine Hillier. Goalie Lauren Maksym had 13 saves to keep the Lady Dalers in the game and to give them their second consecutive Long Island Championship. The Lady Dalers played in the Class A State semi-finals on Friday, June 8 at SUNY Cortland, however results were not available at press time. For more photos go to www.hotphotos4u.com.
