This past week was a very busy one for our community. The Farmingdale Community Summit Council held its fifth annual Summit Expo and Health Fair at Farmingdale High School and the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce held its annual Easter Egg hunt on Saturday. Both these events are shining examples of what makes our community so special. At the Summit Expo there were over 60 tables comprised of the who's who of our community: service organizations, youth sports groups, local businesses, charitable organizations, health agencies, police and fire department representatives and private individuals. This year they added the Trike-a-thon, an event that enabled preschoolers to ride their tricycles in the commons to raise funds for the Family Assistance Fund. It was a tremendous success. The village is proud to be a charter member of the summit. We were pleased to have had our own table and have taken part in this wonderful event. I want to thank our Village Hall colleagues who staffed the table. The generosity of many of our local businesses helped the Summit raise money for its family assistance fund. When you review the exhibitors list you see the backbone of our community-the organizations and individuals who give so much of themselves to make our community a better place to live. The Expo provided attendees the ability to talk face to face with the organizations' leaders, to see what they are really about, what their organization does and answer any questions they might have had. The second event of the week which I was equally proud to attend was the Easter Egg hunt at the Village Green. Thanks to the efforts of the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce the young children got to hunt through the Village Green for plastic eggs filled with candy and toys. The event attracted the most participants since they have been holding it. It's not a coincidence that these events were so successful. The dedicated members of the Summit and the Chamber work tirelessly to make our community a better place to live. I hope everyone will think carefully about choosing one of our local businesses who support our community when deciding what bank, insurance company or restaurant to go to. For those of you who attended the events, I am preaching to the choir. For those of you who did not - you missed a tremendous opportunity to see what makes our small community very special. I urge all of you to look at the Community Summit Council and Farmingdale Chamber Members (check out the chamber list at www.farmingdalevillage.org) and see how you can become involved in one of the many organizations and always remember to patronize the businesses that support our community.
