On Tuesday, April 10, residents will have the opportunity to vote on the proposed Farmingdale Library budget.
The total tax levy amount for the 2007-08 year is $3,364,670, which represents a $76,760, or 2.3 percent increase over the previous year.
"The board's goals are to be able to provide the best service to the community, increasing programs for children, adults, and seniors, and providing the latest materials with access to technology for all users," said Library Director Debbie Podolski.
Library taxes are based on the assessed value of your property multiplied by the library tax rate. All single-family houses in the Farmingdale Library District have the same library tax rate of 20.261.
The following are sample properties within the Farmingdale Library District that were posted on the library's website:
• Sample property: Incorporated Village - Old Style House with Porch
Assessed Value = $1,014
Tax rate per $100 of Assessed Value = 20.261
2006-07 Library taxes = $206 or 56 cents per day.
• South Farmingdale - Cape
Assessed Value = $927
Tax rate per $100 of Assessed Value = 20.261
2006-07 Library taxes = $192 or 53 cents per day.
• N. Massapequa - Split/Ranch
Assessed Value = $1,080
Tax rate per $100 of Assessed Value = 20.261
2005-06 Library taxes = $219 or 60 cents per day.
• Village - Colonial
Assessed Value = $1,494
Tax rate per $100 of Assessed Value = 20.621
2005-06 Library taxes = $302 or 83 cents per day.
Incumbent Trustee Tom Arangio's position is up for re-election. He is running unopposed.
