Lucian J. "Lee" Dambra
Lucian J. "Lee" Dambra, 79, a devotee to the ideal of lifelong learning, passed away March 4, 2007 at "Hospice by the Sea" in Boca Raton, Fl. Lee was principal of the Shore Road and Winthrop Avenue elementary schools in Bellmore, NY for over 20 years. He and his late wife, Margaret Ann, were champions of education, developing opportunities for the underprivileged and working for a new public library in Farmingdale. Lee was a devoted father of Lawrence and Richard, loving grandfather of Patrick and William, a U.S. Navy veteran and an avid ballroom dance performer who rounded out his life with a profound love of opera and the arts. A volunteer at the Citrus County, FL Senior Center, he served meals, taught computer courses and played piano for the seniors. Donations in lieu of flowers to Hospice by the Sea, Boca Raton, FL, or the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends Sun, April 1 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. at McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home, 385 Main St., Farmingdale. Funeral Mass April 2 at 9:45 a.m. at St. Kilian's RC Church, Farmingdale. Interment at Calverton National Cemetery.
Helen Vario, of Mineola died on March 13, 2007. Mother of Elaine, Peter and Michael. Predeceased by her brother, Bill Henderson. Arrangements were made by Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service was held March 15 at the funeral home followed by a private cremation.

Maureen Merrill, of Farmingdale, died on March 19, 2007. Predeceased in December 2006 by her husband, Francis M. Merrill. Mother of Debra Vigorito, Anne Palmer, James, Steven, Patricia and Daniel. Grandmother of 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Also survived by her sister and brother, Patricia Kelly and Thomas Canter. Arrangements were made by Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Inc. Helen D. Scala, 60-year resident of Farmingdale, died on March 5, 2007 at the age of 90. Predeceased by her husband, Giovanni. Mother of Maryann Scala. Frank Ponzio Sr., of Rockdale, TX (formerly of Long Island), died at the age of 85 on March 5, 2007. Predeceased in 1976 by his wife, Sophie. Father of Benny, Frank, Robert, Jo-Anne Fleming and Jean Dickmann. Brother of Emma Lamonica. Grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Arthur F.
