Frederick Rudolph Wilkens, 79, died on March 3, 2007 at Riverside Convalescent Center, Smithfield, VA, with his family at his side.

Fred was born July 4, 1927 in Queens and lived in Farmingdale from the age of 3. He received his bachelors and master of arts in education from Columbia Teachers College in New York. Fred touched the lives of many Farmingdale's youth through the schools and youth sports. He retired from the Farmingdale School District in 1992 after 36 years of service as a social studies teacher, the chairman of the Social Studies Department and assistant principal of Welden E. Howitt Junior High School. Fred also served as a Little League coach and umpire for many years.

Fred's love of history, and especially Civil War history, led to a lifelong hobby in Civil War memorabilia. He was a member of many historical associations, but was especially devoted to the Long Island Antique Historical Arms Association, and served as its secretary and President for many years. Fred was well known for his participation in Civil War shows along the eastern seaboard for over 40 years. He also authored articles for various historical publications, and was the sponsor for the updated book of Farmingdale's history, Farmingdale's Story: Farms to Flights.

Fred leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years, Ethel. He also leaves his son, John, and his wife, Kathleen Wilkens of Westin, FL; his daughter, Christine, and her husband, Jim Amos of Smithfield, VA; and his five grandchildren, Michael, Laurie, Katie, Taylor and Morgan.

Arrangements were made by Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Funeral service held at the funeral home. Interment Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Bernice DiGeronimo of Farmingdale, died on March 7, 2007. Wife of Gustave. Mother and mother-in -law of Susan DiGeronimo, Nancy DiGeronimo, Frank Morris and David and Joa DiGeronimo. Grandmother of Kimberly, Laurie, Jonathan, Sara and Anthony. Arrangements were made by McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home. Religious service was held at the funeral home. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
