The Arson Bomb Squad of the Nassau County Police Department reported details of a fire that occurred on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 6 a.m. in Farmingdale.

According to detectives, a 54-year-old male resident of an apartment at on Ivy St. was awoken by his fire alarm and noticed that his living room couch was on fire. He called 911 and the Farmingdale Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. The victim was taken to New Island Hospital in Bethpage, where he was treated and released for smoke inhalation. The East Farmingdale and Bethpage Fire Departments also responded. According to police, the fire is considered not suspicious but accidental.
