  • News: Transportation Committee Holds Hearing Regarding LIRR's Gap Problem

    Senator Carl Marcellino hosted the New York State Senate Transportation Committee hearing at Syosset High School Feb. 8 on the Long Island Rail Road platform gap problems. Investigations into the safety issues and concerns of gaps at all 246 LIRR and Metro-North train stations have been ongoing and this hearing afforded the opportunity to review the status of the investigation and the solutions that will enable the MTA and its constituent agencies to enhance their safety protocols.   • News: Farmingdale Teen Collects Hundred of Toys for Abused Children

    This past holiday season, 15-year-old Farmingdale resident Dylan Cruthers collected hundreds of toys and games for the children who are seen at the Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center. Assisted by his coaches from the New York Apple Core hockey team, Dylan gathered the toys from donations at his church, school, neighbors and his teammates. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Main Street Mile Committee Members Recognized by Pat LaFontaine

    Companions in Courage founder and New York Islander legend, Pat LaFontaine, recently presented plaques to the race committee of the Main Street Mile. The Main Street Mile, sponsored by the Runner's Edge of Farmingdale and North Fork Bank, is a one mile race open to runners and walker of all abilities. The 2007 event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1. FULL STORY

  • Sports: St. Kilian Girls' Basketball Reach Milestones in 2006

    The St. Kilian sixth grade girls' basketball team has just completed another fine season. They began last summer by finishing first in their age group in the RVC Summer League. In September, they claimed first place at the St. Christopher pre-season tournament in Baldwin. During the holidays they traveled to tournaments in the Bronx and Long Island and played extremely well against the toughest competition at their level. However, the highlight of 2006 was their regular season 11-1 finish that gave them the CYO 5B League Championship. Overall they finished the year with an outstanding 22-5 record. This is a great group of young ladies who continue to make their parents and coaches extremely proud. As a team they would all like to thank the St. Kilian CYO for their support throughout the year.
