The OTHG Softball League is having open registration for new players wishing to sign up for the 2007 season. To be eligible, you need to be at least 40-years-old (reached at any time during the calendar year) and either a Town of Oyster Bay or Farmingdale resident. Over The Hill Gang is an arc-pitch (6-12') softball league that consists of 12 teams that play with rule modifications that are geared toward safety (double first base, no sliding, etc.). The level of play is competitive and spirited. Games are nine innings long with a continuous batting order, free substitutions, and each at-bat begins with a 1-1 count. The league plays a 16 regular game schedule along with a year-end tournament, which are played on Friday nights at 7 p.m., 8:20 p.m. or 9:40 p.m. at Farmingdale's Allen Park and runs from April through September.
Registration will be held on Wednesdays, Jan. 24, Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 at Allen Park (Motor Ave./Heisser Lane Farmingdale) between 7 to 9 p.m. The registration form can be filled out online in advance on the OTHG web site. Access othgny.com and click on Registration. If registering online, you will still be required to come down on one of the above listed registration dates to provide proof of residency and age (i.e. a driver's license) to be eligible for the 2007 season. Any previous year registrants who weren't selected will need to re-register to be eligible for the 2007 season.
Pre-season team vacancies are filled mostly through a blind player draft that will be held in February. Late registrants and those not selected in the draft will be placed on a waiting list and be used to fill in-season vacancies. Only those who provide the required documentation will be eligible to join the OTHG League. 2007 OTHG registration fee will be $120 for those selected and required by March 9.
The 2007 registration fee will again be $120 and will be required by Thursday Feb. 22, which is when the league will collect team registrations for all returning players. Contact your manager or the board if there are any questions and/or problems.
