Suspicious Fire Damages Abandoned Building in Farmingdale
An early morning fire on Jan. 22 that damaged an abandoned building north of Republic Airport in East Farmingdale took 100 responding volunteer firefighters almost three hours to extinguish.

Farmingdale BOE Announces New School Business Administrator Paul Defendini
The Farmingdale School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Defendini to the position of school business administrator effective Jan. 2. Over the course of this past year, Defendini participated in an administrative internship that included time in the business office. His work there has helped to establish the foundation for success in his new position.

Green & White Presents Nite at the Races Fundraiser
Green & White will present Nite at the Races Fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Stuart Thomas Manor, located at 2143 Boundary Ave. in Farmingdale. Tickets are $35 per person, $40 at the door and include dinner, beer, wine and soda. For reservations or more information call 799-7604. All proceeds to benefit the Farmingdale Girls Lacrosse teams.

Over the Hill Gang Softball Report
The OTHG Softball League is having open registration for new players wishing to sign up for the 2007 season. To be eligible, you need to be at least 40-years-old (reached at any time during the calendar year) and either a Town of Oyster Bay or Farmingdale resident. Over The Hill Gang is an arc-pitch (6-12') softball league that consists of 12 teams that play with rule modifications that are geared toward safety (double first base, no sliding, etc.). The level of play is competitive and spirited. Games are nine innings long with a continuous batting order, free substitutions, and each at-bat begins with a 1-1 count. The league plays a 16 regular game schedule along with a year-end tournament, which are played on Friday nights at 7 p.m., 8:20 p.m. or 9:40 p.m. at Farmingdale's Allen Park and runs from April through September.
