East Farmingdale Chief Anthony Nicholes said one firefighter sustained facial lacerations and was treated and released at a nearby hospital. The fire took over an hour and a half to get under control.
According to Kathryn Coley, the college's director of communications, no students or staff were injured.
According to Coley, the value of the loss to the college has yet to be determined, however Chief Nicholes said, "part of the building was destroyed and the wooden part of the structure collapsed."
As of press time, a representative from the Suffolk County Police Department's Public Information Office said, "police detectives are still investigating, but they have no information that leads them to believe it was anything criminal."
In 1964 the Allard Field House was named after a longtime coach and athletic director Gerald Allard, who died in 1989.
"Allard is located near the baseball field and has been used for years as a storage facility," Coley added.
