The 2006 season for the Varsity Lady Daler Swim Team under the direction of Coach Ken Ilchuk, Coach Randy Corcoran, and Coach Karen Deitel, ended with great success. This year the team's record was 7-5. Two of the losses were heartbreakers, one by a point to Plainview 93-92 and to Jericho by two points. Both teams were ranked higher in the conference and were expected to beat the Lady Dalers by a large margin. The girls showed their competitiveness and mental toughness and stayed in the meets until the end. Another top ranked team, Wantagh was expected to beat the Dalers but they took an early lead for a Daler win of 102-83.

The team swam and dove unbelievably all season. They worked hard, had positive attitudes, motivation, and camaraderie. The coaching staff set the tone from the beginning of the season fostering an environment to succeed. Coach Ilchuk is a master at building confidence and self esteem in the entire team. The swimmers strived for personal bests throughout the season and accomplished that by continually breaking their own individual times. They truly exemplified the meaning of teamwork.

After a great run in the Conference, the Lady Dalers were anxiously waiting for the entries into the County Qualifier Meet. In this event, the top 40 out of over 100 entries in each event, from the entire county make it to this level. The Lady Daler's had 14 individual qualifiers and all top three relay teams were represented. That was a huge accomplishment for the team and highlights what a successful season they all had.

The Qualifiers: In the 200 Free: Marissa Boccio and Rachel Landi. The 200 IM was Captain Bridget Farrington. 50 Free was represented by Jill Anesta, Lorraine Pye, and Captain Jasmine Batchelor. Diving for the Daler's was Captain Claire Blackmore, Liz Blovsky, and Kristin Reinhart. In the 100 Fly: Jill Anesta and Lenore Grasso. Swimming the 100 Free was: Marissa Boccio, Lorraine Pye, Jasmine Batchelor, and Samantha Vitale. The 500 Free: Yes, this is 20 laps, swam by Rachel Landi and Captain Nicole Zeno. The 100 Backstroke was Jess Mackenzie and Lauren Broton. Bridget Farrington swam the 100 breaststroke. Melissa Lopez was the first alternate for the 100 Fly.

The event was an experience for all the swimmers, some who have made it in the past but most were new to this high pressured event. The coaching staff did a great job preparing the girls. Total team support led to a magnificent performance by all. Returning to the State Qualifying meet was: Marissa Boccio, Lorraine Pye, Jill Anesta, and Bridget Farrington for individual races and the 200 and 400 yard freestyle relay teams.
