The OTHG Tournament, in the final stages, had the winner bracket winners, Synergy and Barco, facing off on Oct. 3. Barco jumped out with two in the first on Terry McPartland's sac fly and Steve Schwind's RBI single but Synergy bounced right back with one in the first and two in the second for a 3-2 lead. Barco took their final lead in the third on "Sponge Bob" Diamond's two RBI double but it was all Synergy from there on as they out scored Barco by seven the rest of the game for a 11-5 victory. The victory clinched the winner's bracket for Synergy and placed them in the finals undefeated. The other game this past Tuesday had Bethpage PT continuing their fine play with a close victory over Built-More-Builders. It was a low scoring affair until BTP broke open the game late for the victory and knocking BMB out of the tournament. The balance of the fourth round was played on Friday, Oct. 6 in blustery conditions. Hampton Air overcame the top seed team, Singletons to move on while the loss knocked Singletons out. The victory earned Hampton Air the right to continue on and immediately took on Bethpage PT. The game was a low scorer as it was tied at one until the bottom of the seventh when Air scored five to jump out to a 6-1 lead. Bethpage posted two in the eighth to make it 6-3 but Hampton Air iced the game with seven in their half on the way to a 13-5 victory. The other losers bracket game had Mers facing off against Barco. Mers took a one-run lead after the first three batters but was shut down the rest of the way as Barco was able to push across just enough to win a 2-1 nail bitter. Tony Falcone's RBI single in the third and Steve Schwind's RBI hit in the seventh were the only runs they were able to muster. Mers infield helped out pitcher Joe Fanning as they turned three DPs to kill potential Barco rallies while two Barco running miscues added another two DPs. For Barco, their middle infield of Steve Jacobson, Steve Schwind and pitcher Gary Jambor played well as did first basemen Phil Tripoli who demonstrated his soft hands in digging out some low throws. The loser bracket finals will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 10 with the winner earning the right to face winner bracket winner Synergy in the finals on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:45 p.m.
On a sad note, Barco members and the OTHG League would like to offer their condolences to Tony and Denise Falcone on the passing of Denise's sister who lost her courageous battle against cancer.
