Farmingdale mortgage broker Jeff Alfano, owner of ARK Capital Corp., is offering to plow the driveways of seven lucky senior Farmingdale residents, free of charge, during the 2006/07 winter season.
The idea came about after Alfano helped his son shovel driveways of senior citizens during the blizzard of February 2006.
"I thought that the price they had to pay might put a squeeze on their budget and felt bad that he had to take their money, but he was working hard and deserved to be paid," he explained. "This gave me the idea to get a truck and offer to plow out a few driveways of seniors that enter the drawing."
Alfano is limiting the winners to seven as he said he does not want to take away business from those who do this for a living in the winter.
"I feel it is a nice gesture that will be appreciated by those I am able to service," Alfano added. "If it goes well this year I will make it an annual drawing."
A Farmingdale resident himself for the past nine years, Alfano has deep-rooted ties to the community.
"My great-great-uncle, Adolph Bausch, was the second or third president [mayor] of Farmingdale, circa 1905," he explained.
