The Main Street Mile will once again take place in Farmingdale on Saturday, Sept. 2.
This event is being sponsored by North Fork Bank and presented by Runner's Edge. Both elite and recreational runners are invited to participate in this event, which will go to Companions in Courage Foundation (CiC), founded by former New York Islander and Hockey Hall of Famer Pat Lafontaine, serving as Honorary Race Marshal.
"This is a great way for families to kick off the Labor Day weekend. I am looking forward to seeing Long Island come together for such a great cause," LaFontaine said.
Cash prizes will be awarded and a special bonus awarded to the first male breaking four minutes and the first female breaking 4:50 for the mile. This is a great event for elite or recreational runners as well as the entire family.
The race will take place at 4:15 p.m. The events include the one-mile race and a quarter-mile kids fun run. The one-mile race fee is $20.
The Kids Fun Run is $5 and begins at 3:30 p.m. Call the Runners Edge at 420-7963 for more information. Sponsorship opportunities are also still available. For more information contact Mark Leff at 984-1127 or email mainstreetmile@aol.com or Bob Cook at the Runners Edge at 420-7963.
