Farmingdale School District Announces Appointment of John Lorentz as Superintendent
The Farmingdale School District is pleased to announce the appointment of John Lorentz, former assistant superintendent for business, as the new superintendent of schools. Lorentz's appointment took place during a board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 8 and became effective immediately. He has worked in the Farmingdale School District for five years.

Aug. 9, 1944, 62 years ago, World War II entered a new phase. On June 6, about two months prior, the Allies, successful in the Battle with U-boats for the Atlantic, denied Germany its ambition to invade England by winning the Battle of Britain. The successful invasion of Italy began the crusade for Europe.

McDonald House Celebrates 20th Year at Sports Festival
The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island will be celebrating its 20th anniversary at their annual Sports Festival, on Sept. 9, then follow-up with a Gala black-tie dinner at the end of the month. Sponsored by Anton Community Newspapers, the McDonald's Sports Festival hosts the area's most successful charity softball tournament in the metro area. Returning for a ninth consecutive year is the Columbus Lodge #2143 Golden Lions co-ed softball team ("CL").

Farmingdale Yankees Win Second Place in Babe Ruth League
The Farmingdale Yankees 13-year-old team played a great season in the Babe Ruth League this summer, making it to the Championship, following two outstanding playoff wins. Last Sunday night at Allen Park, the Yankees faced Seaford in the first game, winning 6-3 after being down 3-1. The second game was against the first-place East Meadow Mustangs and the Yankees pulled out an 8-6 win, earning them a spot in the Championship game. The Yankees played hard in the championship, losing only to a team of boys one year older.
