I would like to apologize to Donna Gianino for not using her correct name in my rebuttal letter.

Regarding Ms. Gianino's latest unfounded accusation that I or any other member of the Over the Hill Gang Softball League haven't taken any action regarding the loutish behavior occasionally observed at Allen Park, who does she think makes the majority of the calls to the Nassau County Police Department on Friday nights? I, personally, as well as other members of the league have broken up fights and arguments at the park. Has she been at the park almost every Friday night for six months out of the year as I have for the past 19 years? I can readily testify to what actually occurs on Friday evenings, as can many other members of the League, some who have been with the organization for up to 30 years. Our organization is the reason that most people are at the park on Friday nights, and a vast majority of the people involved have roots in the community and school district and possesses the same civic pride and community concerns that she refers to. Does she assume she is the only person who cares about what goes on in our community? I guess I'm not the only person guilty of assuming things.

As for the added assumption in her second letter that this is an ongoing problem with the League, if this is truly the case, why hasn't there been any prior action taken by the Nassau County Police Department or Town of Oyster Bay until after that specific night? Any time 911 is called, the police department is required to respond and investigate complaints, and until that infamous evening the NCPD had never responded to Allen Park to monitor the OTHG parking lot activities, much less needing to take any enforcement action. If the 8th Precinct determined at any time that there was an ongoing problem with the players' behavior in the parking lot, not only would the park be part of any proactive patrol by the area patrol cars to deter such activity, but also the POP (Problem Oriented Police) Unit would have been employed as well for added enforcement and scrutiny. As stated previously, the league is in constant communications with town officials and was never informed of any complaints against the league. I guess any reasonable person could conclude that if there were any other complaints, they weren't directed against the OTHG. To also imply that her complaints were the reason that there is now a Town Security Force is absurd. This division of TOB Security was formed approximately six months ago as a way of protecting all of TOB property and providing a safe and secure atmosphere for all town residents. I guess she assumes they will only be used on Friday nights and never beyond Allen Park boundaries. And she thinks I need to get my facts straight? I, for one, embrace the added security presence at the park. It ensures a safer environment for all of our families. It will also prove that her complaints about our League are baseless.

My mentioning the OTHG charity work was intended to point out all the good that this organization has done and will continue to do for this community. I invite Ms. Gianino and everyone in our community to participate in this year's OTHG fundraiser scheduled for Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m. This year's cause is a benefit for Friends4Jillian, a Farmingdale baby born with serious health issues in need of our support.

In the future, if Ms. Gianino has any questions or concerns regarding our organization, rather than making assumptions all she has to do is ask, we have nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed of. As stated in my original response, I am proud to be a member of the Over the Hill Gang Softball League and take umbrage with anyone who tries to smear our reputation with unsubstantiated and unfounded accusations. I find it especially reprehensible that in her original letter she blatantly accused league members of putting our own children at risk. How can she seriously make these outrageous accusations?
