I would like to express my thanks to the Farmingdale community for their cooperation and understanding on Sunday, June 25, as we staged the 15th annual Nick Katsounis Memorial Wheelchair Championship 10 Kilometer Race on the roads of Farmingdale.

We recognize that the road closings and traffic restrictions that are necessary to assure the safety of the wheelchair athletes do result in inconvenience to many local residents. We apologize for that and we thank you for bearing with us last Sunday.

We also would like to say a special "thank you" to the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) from the South Farmingdale Fire Department for once again being there to guard us against medical problems. Unfortunately, we did have one incident involving an athlete who fell from her chair. Fortunately, however, the South Farmingdale EMTs were there to save the day.

Geri Walsh

Director of Wheelchair Athletics
