Each year the Farmingdale School District honors alumni who have succeeded in reaching their goals during a ceremony and induction into the district's Wall of Fame. This year on Monday, May 1, four alumni were added to the Wall of Fame and recognized by the Farmingdale School District Board of Education, administration and community.
George Hincapie, of the class of 1991, is now a professional cyclist who represented the United States in four Olympics. In 2005 he was part of Lance Armstrong's Discovery Team and won the 15th Stage of the Tour de France. His childhood friend Thomas Spuhler accepted the award on his behalf. Janis Brenner, class of 1972, is an award-winning dancer, choreographer, singer and teacher who now directs the Janis Brenner and Dancers company in New York City. She has toured 27 countries and her work has been commissioned by colleges in Europe, Asia and the United States. Armond DeLalio of the class of 1935 served as a Marine Corps captain and pilot during World War II. He was wounded in battle, yet successfully completed his mission and earned a Purple Heart along with the Navy Cross, the highest medal for valor awarded by the navy. DeLalio has sadly passed away, but a family member accepted his Wall of Fame induction award. Terri Gresalfi Drossos, class of 1971, now teaches business education and has been recognized for community service by SCOPE and the Town of Islip. Drossos has been honored as Educator of the Year and Woman of the Year.
The Farmingdale School District was pleased to honor these four talented and remarkable individuals. They will forever have a place on the Wall of Fame as true role models for Farmingdale students to look up to.
