  • News: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Takes Charity to New Depths

    Scott Muller has always dreamed of hiking the Grand Canyon. When he was given the opportunity to do so--and help others in the process--he got his wish and then some. Muller is one of 30 volunteers chosen by the Long Island Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to participate in its Hike For Discovery this May 20. Each member is trying to raise at least $3,700, for which the proceeds will go toward cancer aid and research. This is the second year that the LLS is doing the program, but it is the inaugural season for the Long Island Chapter. FULL STORY

  • News: Farmingdale School District Honors Wall of Fame Inductees

    Each year the Farmingdale School District honors alumni who have succeeded in reaching their goals during a ceremony and induction into the district's Wall of Fame. This year on Monday, May 1, four alumni were added to the Wall of Fame and recognized by the Farmingdale School District Board of Education, administration and community. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Golden Lions Head to Bellport for Hooters

    Sliding in head first, the Columbus Lodge #2143 Golden Lions will be heading to Bellport's Martha Avenue Softball Complex to participate in the Hooters ASA Qualifier Series. The ASA sanctioned event is one of over 300 local qualifying tournaments that will be held throughout the country. A good showing by Golden Lions could be the first step toward advancing to the east coast regional series in Orlando, FL followed by the Hooters Championship Series in Oklahoma City, OK. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Over The Hill Softball Report

    Play Ball! The Over the Hill Gang opened up its 2006 season Friday, May 5 to a fine spring night, plenty of family and friends and two newly refurbished ball fields. Among those present was the OTHG's special friend and longtime supporter, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto, who graciously accepted president Jim Reilly's invitation to come and toss out the ceremonial first pitch. The league would also like to extend its appreciation and thanks for all the time, effort and expense the Town has expended in refurbishing the entire park over the past few years.
