Green Leaf Party candidates George "Butch" Starkie and Patricia Christiansen were elected village trustees in the Farmingdale Village election held March 21. Starkie and Christiansen edged out seven village residents vying for two open positions with 510 and 503 votes, respectively. Additionally, Green Leaf Party candidate Salvatore Nicosia was re-elected to his village trustee post, defeating his opponent and Village Justice James L. Breen by a margin of 256 votes. The village has reduced the number of village justice seats from two to one and both Nicosia and Breen sought re-election.

After the election Christiansen said she looks forward to serving as a village board representative.
"I would like to thank everyone who was so overwhelmingly supportive during these past couple of months and came out and voted for us, she said."
Her running mate, Starkie, added, "It was a great race and I want to thank all the people who voted for us."
The official tallies for village trustee positions were as follows: Farmingdale Taxpayers Party candidate Joseph Diurno, 113 votes; Farmingdale Unity Party candidate Joann Corrao, 192 votes; Citizens for Farmingdale candidate Teresa Morrison, 203 votes; Farmingdale Unity Party candidate Robert P. Callahan, 212 votes and Citizens for Farmingdale candidate Russell Carpenter, 230 votes.
The official tallies for village justice positions were as follows: James Breen, 333 votes and Salvatore Nicosia, 589 votes.
Nicosia, who has held a village justice position for the past 12 years, said he was surprised by the large margin of votes he won by.
"I am just delighted that my friends and neighbors came out to support me," he added.
Breen, who has served as a village trustee for the past eight years said, "I would like to thank Farmingdale for a great 12 years as the village attorney and the village justice."
Mayor George Graf later told the Farmingdale Observer he is "thrilled to have two outstanding residents join the board."
"Together we will continue to build upon the efforts initiated over the last two years."
Starkie and Christiansen will serve two-year terms, while Nicosia will serve a four-year term. The candidates will be sworn in at the April 3 village trustees meeting.
