Citizens for Farmingdale candidate James L. Breen is seeking re-election for village justice, a position he has held for the past eight years.

"Throughout the time that I have served as village justice, I have always tried to be fair, just and understanding while performing my duties as village justice," Breen said. "I have also attempted to treat the village residents who appear before me with a high degree of respect. I believe that I have accomplished all of these things over my eight years as judge."

In regard to issues facing his bench, Breen said he does not agree with the recent fine increase for parking violations and traffic infractions in the village.

"People are having a hard enough time meeting their household bills. The law must operate with a certain degree of compassion," he added.

Breen has been a Farmingdale resident since 1964. He attended Main Street School, Howitt Junior High School and Farmingdale High School. He obtained his undergraduate degree from St. John's University and later obtained his law degree from St. John's University School of Law. Breen has practiced law in the Village of Farmingdale for the past 17 years, including serving as village attorney.

Farmingdale Unity Party candidate Salvatore Nicosia is seeking re-election for village justice, a position he has held for the past 12 years.

Nicosia is a lifelong resident of Farmingdale, including graduating from Farmingdale High School. He has practiced law serving the Farmingdale community for over 40 years and said his "commitment to Farmingdale is well established."

Nicosia received both his undergraduate and doctor of law degree from St. John's University and School of Law. He is currently a member of the Nassau County Bar Association, particularly active in its Fee Conciliation Committee, where he said he has "distinguished himself as an advocate." The Fee Conciliation Committee consists of NCBA members who volunteer their time to hear and adjudge fee disputes.

Years ago Nicosia served the community as a former village attorney and prosecuting attorney in the Village Justice Court. He was also former vice chairman and member of the board of the Town of Oyster Bay Housing Authority, which owns, operates and maintains multiple senior citizen and family apartment units. He served as past president of the Farmingdale Rotary Club and currently remains a member. He and wife, Barbara, have two adult children and five grandchildren.
