It's Official: Suozzi Throws Hat in Gubernatorial Ring
It was with great enthusiasm and support, albeit little surprise, that Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi stood before a crowd of more than 1,200 supporters on Saturday morning in front of the Glen Cove house where his grandparents lived to announce that yes, he is declaring his candidacy for governor of New York State.
Lady Dalers Complete Successful Season
The Farmingdale High School Junior Varsity Girls Basketball team finished the 2005/06 season in convincing fashion last Tuesday with a 60-52 victory over Freeport High School. The final game was the perfect finish to a fine season that included 11 wins and four losses. It proved to be the first time in many years that a junior varsity team performed to such high expectations. As a group consisting of both freshmen and sophomores, these girls blended together as one cohesive unit under the guidance of coaches Dave Otto and Ron Zimmer. This team began the season with an emphasis on defense. However, this year's squad would go on to set the junior varsity record for points scored in a game with 66. Despite a rash of untimely injuries to their starters, they finished strong winning six of their last seven games. The Junior Varsity Dalers are Stephanie Ringbauer, Jaime McPartland, Jessica Williams, Jackie Mazza, Ashley Vitale, Marianne Van Meter, Brittany Hushion, Regina Bates, Nicola DeVine, Jackie Montenaro and Nicole Sottile. Both coaches and parents are extremely proud of these young ladies for their fine performance over the course of the season and their overall commitment to teamwork.
Registration for the 2006 Hawk football and cheerleading seasons will be held at Allen Park on Saturdays, March 4 and April 1. For more information visit www.farmingdalehawks.org or call 752-0604.
