The featured speaker at the Tuesday, March 21 Open Meeting of the Greater Long Island Running Club will be 2005 New York UltraRunning Overall Champion Byron Lane. The meeting will be held in the new auditorium at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library starting promptly at 8 p.m. The general public is cordially invited to attend.
Lane earned his Championship by winning the six-event 2005 New York UltraRunning Grand Prix. The New York UltraRunning Grand Prix consisted of six events in 2005 - the Caumsett State Park 50 Kilometer Run in March, the Sybil Luddington 50 Kilometer Run in Carmel in April, the Long Island Greenbelt Trail 50 Kilometer Run in May, the Pioneer 100K over the Labor Day weekend, the Staten Island Six-Hour Run in September, and the GLIRC 6 Hour 60th Birthday Run in Sunken Meadow State Park in October. Lane's win in the Staten Island 6-Hour Run put him over the top for the 2005 championship.
Lane is an excellent speaker who has a wealth of knowledge and anecdotes about running ultra-marathons, and the evening promises to be an entertaining one. For more information, call the Greater Long Island Running Club at 349-7646.
