The Farmingdale Community Summit held its fourth annual Farmingdale Jumps this past Monday night at the Farmingdale High School gym. Once again it was a huge success. It is particularly satisfying to me to see our community come together for these types of events. The village is very proud to be a charter member of the Summit and we try to cooperate and support them wherever possible. The Summit's Jumps Committee, our local PTAs and our school district should be commended for their efforts and selflessness in coordinating this event. Once again, children and adults of all ages were presented with good clean family fun. It's a pleasure to hear and see the children laughing and enjoying themselves. Most importantly, all the proceeds are going to go directly back into our community. The proceeds are being shared by the Council of PTAs and the Farmingdale Summit. The Summit is going to allocate its share to its Farmingdale Family Assistance Fund. The Summit uses this fund to help families within the Farmingdale School District. The Summit over the past few years has been using this fund to assist Farmingdale Families with a myriad of needs. While they have not been major contributions, they are very timely and necessary donations that have helped many families through difficult times. It's not something that they publicize or announce, or look to take credit for. They just do it. They receive calls from the school district, social workers or just from a concerned neighbor or community member. We seem to forget that there are families here that do need help. One of the things that make our community so special is the caring members that make up the Summit Board and their event committees. I applaud and commend your efforts. The Summit would like to continue their support and hope that events like Farmingdale Jumps will continue to give them the funds that they need to do so. If you would like to help them in their quest, you can learn more about the Summit by attending their monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Farmingdale Public Library.
