Assembly Republicans Push for Civil Confinement Legislation
The State Assembly recently reached an agreement on new, stronger protections from sex offenders. The new law, signed into law by Governor Pataki shortly thereafter, lengthens the amount of time sex offenders remain on the State's Sex Offender Registry.

Harlem Wizards to Appear at Farmingdale Jumps February 6
Farmingdale Jumps is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 6 at 5:45 p.m. at Farmingdale High School. The Harlem Wizards will taking on the Farmingdale Tornados. There will also be a special appearance by Quacker Jack. Raffle prizes from the Kicks, Jets, Islanders and Giants will be available. Tickets are $10 and are available through each school's PTA. Fifty percent of ticket sales will go to the PTAs to support scholarships and the other half will go to the Farmingdale Summit Community Council's Family Assistance program.

American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Seeks Participants, Volunteers
Are you ready to Relay? Take up the fight with Farmingdale and join the Relay for Life held from 6 p.m. Friday, May 5 to 6 a.m. Saturday, May 6 at the State University in Farmingdale. The Relay for Life is a once-a-year overnight fundraiser as well as a celebration of life and a time to remember those lost to cancer. Cancer survivors are invited to join the Relay by taking the honorary first lap and attending the survivors' reception. Everyone is invited to join a team, or simply come to the Relay for part of the evening to join the festivities and support the cause. Find out about the many ways you can get involved by visiting the American Cancer Society's website at www.cancer.org or call Jennifer Muccioli, Event Chairperson, at 516-351-2638. Committee meetings are held the first Thursday evening of each month at 6:30 p.m. in room 111 in Roosevelt Hall at the State University in Farmingdale, and team meetings are held at 7:45 p.m. in room 109. All are welcome.
